WGDR webstreams the MP3 format, so you need an MP3 player. Below are some of the popular MP3 players for both Mac's and PC's:
Mac: iTunes, Audion
Windows: iTunes, WinAmp, Sonique, Windows Media Player
Troubleshooting
01: How does this work?
In order for you to listen to WGDR on your computer, you need an MP3 player. Many computer systems have at least a basic MP3 player installed already. Most computers made in the last five or six years will support audio streaming automatically. Additionally, if your computer has speakers, it supports sound. Try clicking on the "Listen Live!" link in the upper left of each page of the WGDR website to see if it works.
02: I can listen online at home, but not at work!
Most businesses have something called a firewall that can affect how you listening to audio streams. If you think this may apply to you, ask your company's IT staff how to configure your MP3 player to play streaming audio through the firewall.
03: I can see the stream in my player, but no sound is coming out of my speakers!
For PC users, click on the small horn icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Make sure that the "Mute" check box is not checked, and that the volulme is turned up.
For MacOS X users, verify the volume using the speaker icon in the top menu bar.
For MacOS 9 users, verify the volume using the speaker icon on the control strip.
For either system, make sure that any speaker or component plugged into the audio jack is plugged in and turned on, etc.
04: Sometimes I click on your streaming links and I get an error message that says either "404 File Not Found," or my MP3 player launches and then tells me it cannot find the stream.
In this case, you should e-mail our Tech Support and alert us to the problem.
05: Sometimes the MP3 player says "Rebuffering" while I am listening to the stream, and the audio will break up making it impossible to listen. What causes this situation? There are several possible reasons for this:
Bad Connection to your ISP
You may have a poor connection to the internet. Try disconnecting and redialing your connection to the internet. You may get a better connection with fewer interruptions.
Surfing the Web while Listening to Music
If you try to view a web page with lots of graphics, you may not have enough capacity to simultaneously listen to our live feed. Try pressing the "stop" button on your web browser and see if it gets better.
Traffic on the Internet
During busy times on the internet, some of the audio information can be lost. When too much information is lost, the MP3 player will have trouble playing music and will display a message indicating "rebuffering." Try re-clicking on the link. This may help establish a better connection to the server.
KNOW YOUR OS (Operating System)
In order to download a free player, you will need to know your operating system
Windows: Click on the start button. Your OS (Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, etc.) will be listed in a banner running up the left side of the pop-up.
Macintosh: On a Mac, with the Finder as the active window, click on the Apple logo in the top left menu bar, then select "About This Computer" - this will pull up a window that lists the OS.
KNOW YOUR CONNECTION TYPE
If you plug your computer into a phone line to get on the internet, you have
a dial-up connection. Sorry, but dial-up connections will get you a lower
quality audio. If your computer connects to the internet through a cable
modem or a DSL modem, you have a broadband connection and can therefore
utilize the high-speed stream (with excellent quality sound).
FIND OUT IF YOUR COMPUTER SUPPORTS SOUND
If your computer was built in the last five or six years and has speakers, it probably supports sound. If the speakers are still in the box, take them out and plug them in! Some speakers also need to be "plugged in" - do this, and if there is a volume knob, turn it up. If there is an on/off button, turn it on!
